Services:
I provide advocacy relating to securing all of the necessary supports and services for families and their children/young adults from birth to age 21, to ensure the compliance of all special education/disability laws in order for the student to benefit in all areas of life. I provide assistance with locating and obtaining services within the community,home and educational environment.
Services within the home and community include but are not limited to:
- Assistance with applying for/appealing Social Security Benefits (SSI and SSDI) and medical assistance
- Receiving services at Service Access Management- SAM (Crisis intervention, case management, supports/service coordination, intake and referral for MH, MR, D&A)
- Help with navigating the Pa Department of Welfare programs/grants/waivers Explanation of Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (wrap around)
- Court proceedings
- Location of childcare for children with disabilities
- Referrals for service providers (OT, PT, SLP, tutors, social skills training, psychologists, psychiatrist)
Services within the school include but are not limited to:
- Explanation of special education laws for the 0-3 program, 3-5 program and school age program (including gifted services), charter and cyber charter schools
- Eligibility requirements for special education services
- Securing an IEE at public expense
- Securing supplementary aids and related services
- Placement decisions including LRE
- Locating and recommending private placements
- Assist parents in understanding educational documents (IEP, ER, RR, FBA, PBSP, NOREP)
- Participate in school meetings (MDE, IEP, FBA)
- Help the parent understand disciplinary issues in the school setting (suspensions, manifestation hearings, expulsions)
- FERPA requests
- Dispute Resolution (IEP facilitation, mediation and due process hearings)
- Compliance of special education regulations
